Studying medicine in Italy starts long before you pack your bags. First, you need to understand the admission route, check your qualifications, prepare for the entrance examination, and organise the documents that support your application. Then come university selection, scholarships, visa paperwork, accommodation, and enrolment after arrival.
That can sound overwhelming when you are also preparing for school examinations or NEET. The process becomes easier when you divide it into manageable tasks and give every task a deadline.
This EuroPick Education guide explains IMAT 2027 preparation and the journey towards an English taught medical degree in Italy. It is written especially for Indian students and families, with information that will also help applicants from other countries. Use it to build your personal plan, ask better questions, and avoid leaving important decisions until the last moment.
The most useful starting point is simple: prepare academically and administratively at the same time. A good entrance score matters, but so do an eligible qualification, a complete application, realistic finances, and timely action.
1 What is confirmed for IMAT 2027
The 2027 IMAT examination date, registration window, final participating programmes, seat allocations, test centres, fee, and examination rules are not confirmed in the official IMAT material reviewed for this guide. Where we discuss a recent examination pattern or university list, it is a preparation reference, not a promise about 2027.
However, some wider international admission procedures already cover 2027–28. Universitaly currently states that the general deadline for submitting university study visa applications for that academic year is 31 October 2027. Universities may require earlier submission. This is not an IMAT registration deadline or permission to delay your application until October. Check for later amendments. Universitaly international student procedures.
Keep a small update sheet with four columns: requirement, official source, deadline, and action completed. Add information only after checking the original announcement. A social media graphic can alert you to news, but the university notice or government publication should guide your decision.
2 What is IMAT and what degree does it lead to
IMAT means International Medical Admissions Test. It is the English language admission examination associated with selected medical programmes in Italy. The Ministry of University and Research, commonly called MUR, publishes the relevant annual rules. The 2026 ministerial notice covers English taught Medicine and Surgery, Dentistry, and Veterinary Medicine; these are separate degree choices. MUR 2026 admission notice.
Indian families often search for “MBBS in Italy.” The Italian programme is usually called Medicine and Surgery, and it is generally a six year single cycle degree. Check the exact programme title, teaching language, campus, and curriculum before applying. Do not assume that every course containing the word “medical” qualifies you to become a doctor.
Italian taught medicine and English taught medicine have distinct admission arrangements. News about changes to one route does not automatically describe the other. Likewise, private universities may use their own admission tests and calendars. Read the admission notice for the exact course you want.
3 Is studying medicine in Italy right for you
Before comparing universities, think about the daily reality of medical school. You will need to study consistently, understand scientific English, communicate with patients, manage practical training, and live away from home for several years.
Italy can be worth considering if you want a university medical education in Europe and are willing to learn Italian alongside an English taught course. But choosing a country only because someone advertises cheap fees is risky. Your family needs a workable plan for rent, food, travel, insurance, and unexpected expenses.
Discuss three questions at home. Can we support the first year if a scholarship is delayed or unavailable? Where might I want to practise after graduation? Am I ready to learn the local language and manage my own appointments and paperwork?
Your answers will influence university selection more than a photograph of a beautiful campus. A sensible choice should fit your academic preparation, family budget, and long term professional plans.
4 Check your academic eligibility before paying application fees
For first cycle and single cycle admission, the normal starting point is a suitable final school qualification obtained after at least twelve years of schooling. The qualification must provide the required access to higher education in the relevant education system. Special provisions exist for shorter schooling pathways and certain qualifications. Official guidance on foreign qualifications.
Prepare a one page education history showing your school board, subjects, examination years, final marks, and any additional study. Include failed subjects, improvements, or changes of board honestly. This makes an eligibility enquiry much clearer than asking whether your board is “accepted in Italy.”
Students with NIOS, additional subjects, mixed boards, private candidate qualifications, A levels, or a change from Arts to science should request an assessment of their exact documents. Send the certificates and explain the complete sequence. Do not rely on another student's admission because their qualification may differ from yours.
If you are still in Class 12, ask which provisional documents are accepted and when final results must arrive. A conditional application is useful only if you can satisfy its conditions on time.
5 Understand NEET and future medical registration in India
IMAT admission and eligibility to practise medicine in India are separate matters. Indian and OCI applicants planning foreign undergraduate medical education should verify the applicable NEET qualification requirement and its validity for their admission year directly with the National Medical Commission. Do this before committing to a university.
Under the NMC Foreign Medical Graduate Licentiate framework, requirements include a minimum 54 month medical course, a minimum twelve month internship at the same foreign medical institution, English instruction, specified subjects, and registration or licensing eligibility in the country awarding the qualification. There are also Indian internship and examination requirements. Check the applicable regulations and later notices for your cohort. NMC explanation of the FMGL regulations.
Do not assume that Italian clinical placements automatically meet every Indian internship requirement. Ask the university for written details of the curriculum, training duration, internship certification, and local licensing route. Seek regulatory clarification where needed. A university's reputation alone does not resolve an individual graduate's registration eligibility.
6 How many universities should you research
The final number of universities offering places through the 2027 examination remains subject to the official list. As a starting reference, the following seventeen public university names appear in the recent English medicine landscape. This is a research list, not a confirmed 2027 seat list. A university can have multiple programmes or campuses, and some categories may have no places. Recent participating university reference.

Marche Polytechnic University is in Ancona. Dentistry, veterinary medicine, additional campuses, and private institutions must be counted separately rather than mixed into a medicine total.
When the 2027 MUR seat table appears, rebuild your shortlist from that document. Check the degree class, location, teaching language, and your applicant category. The number beside another category is not necessarily available to you.
7 Choose a university using more than last year's cutoff
Create a comparison sheet for your shortlisted universities. Record the programme location, available category, document deadline, English requirement, fees, scholarship authority, and housing options. Add the source and date beside every figure.
Historical cutoffs can help you understand competition, but they do not predict the next result. Scores change with paper difficulty, applicant performance, seats, and candidate choices. Distinguish the first published threshold from later admission rounds and compare only the same applicant category.
Your own mock performance is useful when it is consistent across several unfamiliar papers. One unusually high score is a weak basis for an expensive decision. Compare your average, weaker subjects, and remaining preparation time.
Look carefully at the teaching campus. The city in a university's name is not always where the medical programme is delivered. Check travel between housing, classrooms, and hospitals. A manageable commute can make a substantial difference during a demanding degree.
Finally, ask whether the option remains affordable without a scholarship. Financial resilience deserves a place beside academic ambition.
8 Understand your applicant category
Recent admission arrangements distinguish between EU or legally equivalent applicants and non EU applicants residing abroad. The former generally follow national preference rankings; the latter generally compete through the selected university's reserved category. The annual rules determine the precise procedure. MUR examination and admission rules.
An Indian passport does not, by itself, answer every category question. Residence status and the legal basis for equivalent treatment matter. If you already live in Italy, send the university your residence documentation and ask which category applies before registering.
Do not assume that selecting more university names always creates more admission opportunities. Your available choices depend on your category and the official procedure. For applicants abroad, the university chosen for pre-enrolment can be especially important.
Write down the category confirmed by the university, retain the reply, and make sure the same information is used consistently throughout your applications.
9 Recent IMAT exam pattern and marking
The recent format provides a practical basis for preparation while you wait for the 2027 decree. It uses sixty multiple choice questions in one hundred minutes, with five options and one correct answer per question. The maximum score is ninety. MUR examination rules for 2026.

Recent marking awards 1.5 points for a correct answer, deducts 0.4 for an incorrect answer, and gives zero for an unanswered question. Forty correct answers, ten incorrect answers, and ten blanks therefore produce 56 points: sixty points earned minus four deducted.
Use that scoring system in practice rather than counting correct answers alone. Also practise accurate answer recording under time pressure. Verify the 2027 format, permitted materials, marking, and answer sheet instructions when published.
10 Turn the syllabus into a preparation checklist
Use the official syllabus as your boundary. The recent outline includes reading and general knowledge, reasoning, biology, chemistry, mathematics, and physics. Biology covers cells, inheritance, physiology, evolution, biotechnology, and energy processes. Chemistry includes atomic structure, bonding, reactions, solutions, equilibrium, acids and bases, redox, and organic fundamentals. Mathematics includes algebra, functions, geometry, probability, and statistics. Physics includes measurement, mechanics, fluids, thermodynamics, and electromagnetism. MUR official 2026 syllabus.
Give every topic one of three labels: unfamiliar, understood but slow, or reliable under timed conditions. These labels are more useful than saying that a chapter is “finished.” Reading a chapter and answering an unfamiliar question about it are different achievements.
Keep the checklist small enough to review weekly. Beside each weak topic, write one specific next action, such as revising meiosis diagrams or completing twenty concentration calculations. Clear actions prevent a large syllabus from becoming an excuse for unfocused study.
11 Start with a diagnostic test
Before designing a timetable, attempt a recent official paper under its original timing conditions. Do not pause to consult notes. If you have already seen the answers, use another paper or an unfamiliar test that follows the relevant syllabus.
Record correct, incorrect, and unanswered questions by subject. Then classify every mistake. Did you lack the concept, misunderstand the English, make an arithmetic error, misread a graph, or run out of time?
This distinction changes your preparation. More biology reading will not solve a habit of overlooking “except” in a question. More full length tests will not repair a chemistry concept you have never understood.
Your first score is a starting measurement, not a prediction of your final result. Choose two priority weaknesses for the first fortnight. Work on them, then attempt a different set of questions. Improvement on unfamiliar questions is stronger evidence of learning than remembering an old answer.
12 Build a realistic preparation calendar
If you have nine to twelve months, divide preparation into three stages. Spend the early stage repairing fundamentals and establishing consistent practice. Use the middle stage to connect topics and increase timed work. Reserve the final stage for revision, full papers, and examination decisions.
If you have six months, shorten the foundation stage without removing it. A student who already understands school science can move faster than someone returning after a long gap. Your diagnostic result should decide the balance.
During board examinations or NEET preparation, maintain a smaller IMAT routine. Short sessions of English reading, mathematics, and reasoning can preserve skills that your other examination preparation may not cover sufficiently.
Build one flexible session into each week. Illness, schoolwork, and family responsibilities happen. A timetable that collapses after one missed evening is too fragile. Measure weekly progress through topics mastered and errors corrected, rather than a perfect streak of study hours.
Set aside a short family review every month. Check your study progress, pending documents, savings plan, and unanswered university questions together. Agree who will handle each task and when it should be completed. This keeps parents informed while allowing you to focus on preparation without repeatedly stopping to solve the same avoidable administrative problems alone.
13 Follow a weekly routine you can actually maintain
Here is a suggested allocation for a student with around twenty hours available each week. Adjust it after reviewing your diagnostic test; it is a planning example, not an official requirement.

Separate learning from testing. In a learning session, take time to understand why an answer works. In a timed session, practise making decisions without help. Both are necessary.
At the end of the week, review what you actually completed. If a topic keeps moving to the following week, make the task smaller or ask for help. “Study physics” is vague. “Explain energy conservation and solve twelve related problems” gives you something concrete to finish.
14 Prepare biology through explanations and connections
Biology preparation becomes stronger when you explain processes in your own words. After studying a topic, close the book and describe what happens, why it happens, and what would change if one part failed.
For example, knowing that mitochondria produce ATP is only a starting point. You should be able to connect ATP availability with active transport, muscle contraction, and cellular activity. Similarly, connect DNA replication with cell division and inheritance rather than treating them as unrelated chapters.
Use drawings for processes involving movement or sequence. Sketch chromosomes through division, a membrane with transport pathways, or a feedback loop. Label your sketch from memory, then compare it with a reliable explanation.
When practising multiple choice questions, explain why the incorrect options fail. An option may contain a true statement that does not answer the question. Learning to recognise that difference improves both scientific understanding and examination judgement.
Keep revision notes short. A useful page of common confusions is easier to revisit than another complete copy of the textbook.
15 Prepare chemistry by making every calculation meaningful
Start a numerical chemistry question by identifying what the quantities represent. Write the units and the relationship before substituting numbers. This helps you detect whether a result is physically or chemically reasonable.
For concentration problems, distinguish the amount of solute from the volume of solution. For stoichiometry, begin with a balanced reaction. For acids and bases, identify the substances and assumptions before using a formula. These habits reduce errors caused by choosing an equation too quickly.
Compare related ideas in pairs: strong and concentrated, oxidation number and ionic charge, bond polarity and molecular polarity, reaction rate and equilibrium position. Being able to explain the difference is a useful test of understanding.
Build fluency with fractions, powers of ten, and simple logarithms during practice. Spend a few minutes each day on calculations without relying on a calculator, while following the rules of the examination you are preparing for.
Review errors immediately, then repeat a similar problem several days later. Delayed success shows that the method has stayed with you.
16 Make physics less intimidating
In physics, begin with the situation rather than the formula. What is moving? Which forces act? What quantity stays constant? What assumptions does the question make?
Draw a simple diagram and list known quantities with units. Decide which principle applies, then calculate. If the question involves a changing speed, ask whether the information is better handled through acceleration, energy, or momentum.
After solving, test the result. Does it have the correct unit? Should it increase or decrease if the mass, distance, or resistance changes? Is the size of the answer sensible?
Practise reading graphs as carefully as equations. Explain what the slope and area mean where applicable. A student who understands the graph often avoids unnecessary algebra.
Short, regular physics sessions usually make weakness easier to address than postponing the subject for one exhausting weekend. Keep a list of principles you can explain confidently and add to it each week.
17 Keep mathematics in your weekly plan
Students concentrating on biology sometimes leave mathematics until the last month. That creates avoidable pressure. Mathematical fluency develops through repeated use, even if each session is short.
Practise translating sentences into expressions. If a question describes a percentage change, write the original value and multiplier. If it describes distance or probability, define the quantities before calculating. Check whether the answer refers to a part or the whole.
For equations and inequalities, record restrictions such as forbidden denominators. For geometry, label the diagram and decide whether a length, area, or volume is required. For probability, define the possible outcomes before counting them.
Use mixed practice once the fundamentals are secure. The examination will not announce which method you need. Switching between topics teaches you to recognise the structure of an unfamiliar problem.
Avoid spending weeks on advanced material simply because it looks impressive. Let the official syllabus and your mistakes determine the depth of your preparation.
18 Develop reading and reasoning skills
Read a short English passage every day and summarise its main claim in one sentence. Then identify what evidence supports that claim. This exercise develops the habit of separating what a passage says from what you personally believe.
For reasoning questions, watch words such as all, some, only, necessary, and sufficient. A small change in wording can change the logic. Try a counterexample when an answer claims something must always happen.
Build vocabulary from words you actually encounter. Write the word in a sentence rather than learning an isolated translation. Scientific English also requires familiarity with comparisons, limitations, and instructions.
Do not allow general knowledge preparation to consume time needed for weak science topics. Use a bounded reading routine and practise the kinds of comprehension skills shown in official questions.
If two options look similar, compare their exact claims. The correct answer may be the more limited statement supported by the information given.
19 Use past papers and mocks properly
Official past papers help you understand question style and the level of reasoning expected. Keep some unseen papers for later assessment. The official 2025 published paper places the correct answer at option A throughout, so it needs suitable handling before being used as a blind mock. Official IMAT past paper page.
After each mock, spend enough time reviewing it to explain every important error. Write the topic, your original reasoning, the corrected reasoning, and the action needed. “Careless mistake” is too broad to be useful.
Track your average across several tests. Also record questions left unanswered, repeated errors, and time lost on difficult items. A rising score matters, but a more reliable process matters too.
During the final preparation stage, practise a three pass approach: answer straightforward questions, return to questions requiring work, and use the remaining time for review. Test the approach in practice before using it on examination day.
20 Prepare for the last month and examination day
In the final month, prioritise consolidation. Revisit recurring mistakes, practise mixed sets, and maintain a stable sleep routine. Starting several new resources at once can make it difficult to see what you already know.
Read the examination instructions carefully. Confirm your centre address, reporting time, accepted identification, permitted items, and any required printed documents. Plan the journey and allow room for delays.
If you need disability accommodations or other approved support, check the application procedure early. Documentation and request deadlines may come before the examination itself.
During the paper, avoid letting one difficult question take time from several manageable ones. A blank answer may be a deliberate decision, but it should come from a practised strategy. Under the recent scoring system, random guessing among five options has slightly negative expected value.
Leave time to check answer recording and identification details. Academic preparation should not be undermined by a preventable administrative mistake in the examination room.
21 Organise your documents before applications open
Create clearly named folders for identity, education, university applications, qualification assessment, scholarships, and visa documents. Keep original files, submitted versions, receipts, and official replies separately.
Your planning list should include a passport, school certificates and marksheets, any relevant entrance examination evidence, English evidence, and documents explaining unusual academic circumstances. Exact submission requirements will depend on the institution and procedure.
Check names, dates of birth, and passport numbers across all records. If something differs, ask the receiving authority how to document or correct it. Do not silently alter certificates yourself.
Apply for a passport early if you do not have one. Do not assume that a national identity card can replace it throughout international admission and visa procedures. Ask about any temporary alternative only for the specific stage concerned.
Keep control of your own email address and accounts. Even when someone helps you, you should receive official notices and retain copies of every submission.
22 Complete the university application and pre-enrolment
Start by reading the university's 2027 admission notice. Identify whether it requires an application or document assessment on its own portal, and note the deadline. Then follow its instructions for the medicine selection route and Universitaly pre-enrolment. General university procedures do not replace course specific instructions. Italian Consulate guidance on application stages.
For Universitaly, prepare accurate personal information, choose the correct academic year and programme, upload the requested documents, and review everything before submitting. Monitor your account and email for correction requests.
Distinguish “submitted” from “validated.” If something is unclear, ask the university which action remains outstanding. Keep the validated summary when available. Pre-enrolment validation does not itself guarantee a visa. Universitaly international student procedures.
Do not send repeated applications with conflicting details to solve a problem. Record your application reference and contact the appropriate support office with a short explanation and relevant screenshot.
23 Register separately for the entrance examination
Treat IMAT registration as a separate task with its own checklist. Once the 2027 instructions are published, confirm the official registration portal, opening and closing times, available centres, fee, and payment procedure.
Review your name, identity document, applicant category, and university choices before completing registration. Select a test centre you can realistically reach. An overseas centre may involve travel permission, accommodation, and additional expense.
Finish payment within the required period and retain confirmation. A failed payment or incomplete registration should be addressed before the deadline, not assumed to resolve itself.
Do not book travel solely because a centre operated in the previous year. Check the current authorised list and any correction notices. Save the latest instructions locally so that you can consult them if the website is temporarily unavailable.
Place registration, payment, examination, and result dates in your calendar as separate entries. They represent different actions.
24 Understand DOV CIMEA apostille and translation
A Declaration of Value, often called DOV, describes a foreign qualification and is issued by the competent Italian diplomatic mission. Jurisdiction depends on the qualification and where it was issued, so it may differ from your visa jurisdiction. Italian Consulate explanation of DOV.
CIMEA comparability and verification address the level and authenticity of a qualification. An apostille or legalisation addresses formal authentication; translation makes the document usable in the required language. These processes serve different purposes.
For 2026–28, the national procedures describe qualification comparability and authenticity documentation for visa applications. Do not assume that a university waiver removes every consular requirement. Confirm the documents needed for both admission and the visa. National procedures covering 2027–28.
Before paying, ask which exact certificate needs which process, who can provide the translation, and whether originals are required. For Indian board qualifications earned abroad, explain both the board and school location. Avoid purchasing every available service merely because the terms sound similar.
25 Check English evidence and start learning Italian
Do not assume that an English medium school certificate or an IMAT score automatically satisfies every language requirement. The 2026–28 national visa procedures specify at least B2 evidence for non native speakers of the course language, through recognised certification or equivalent university certification covering all four skills. Confirm what your consulate accepts. National language evidence requirements.
Ask the university separately about its admission requirement, accepted tests, validity periods, and any exemption. If an examination is needed, leave enough time for the result and a possible retake.
Start Italian early, even when your degree is taught in English. Check the programme's language requirements for clinical placements. Everyday Italian will also help with housing, transport, shopping, and appointments.
A practical routine is fifteen minutes daily: listen, repeat, and use short sentences. Over time, add vocabulary for symptoms, directions, and polite requests. Language learning becomes more useful when connected to situations you will actually face.
26 Plan tuition fees and living expenses honestly
Do not build a six year budget around a headline saying “free medicine in Italy.” Ask each university for the fee rules applicable to your nationality, residence, programme, and financial documentation. Check payment dates and whether reductions require a separate application.
For living expenses, collect current figures from university accommodation information and realistic housing options. Include rent, utilities, groceries, local transport, health coverage, study materials, and personal costs. Treat a room deposit and your first journey as additional starting expenses.
As an illustration only, if your chosen budget is 450 euros for rent and bills, 250 for food, 50 for transport, and 100 for other spending, the monthly total is 850 euros. Twelve months would be 10,200 euros, before tuition and other starting costs. These are sample inputs, not quoted Italian prices.
Convert the budget into rupees using the exchange rate when you pay and allow a buffer. Discuss how your family would manage a rent increase or delayed scholarship payment before committing.
27 Apply for scholarships without waiting blindly for IMAT results
Regional student support is often referred to broadly as DSU, but the responsible body and rules differ by location. Scholarship, accommodation, and meal benefits may have separate conditions and application deadlines.
Find the authority serving your chosen university and read its annual call. Where applications are permitted before final enrolment, waiting for an entrance result could mean missing the window. Check the rule rather than assuming you must already be admitted.
Ask which financial years and documents are required. Evidence can concern family composition, income, property, and financial assets, with translation and authentication rules. ER.GO and DSU Toscana publish specific guidance for international applicants. ER.GO international students; DSU Toscana foreign student documents.
ISEE parificato or another accepted assessment may be relevant, depending on the authority. A scholarship is not automatic because you have low income, and eligibility does not guarantee immediate accommodation or payment. Check academic conditions, renewal rules, and possible repayment obligations before relying on an award.
28 Act promptly when results and rankings arrive
After the examination, follow the official answer key, result publication, and ranking instructions. Check your personal record for errors within the permitted procedure. Avoid treating an unofficial score estimate as an admission offer.
When offered a place, read the deadline immediately. Identify the payment, document upload, acceptance, or enrolment actions required. Save evidence of completion. A family discussion about finances should already have happened so that you can make a timely decision.
If you remain on a waiting list, check whether you must confirm continued interest. Follow the rules for your category rather than copying another student's instructions.
If you are unsuccessful, assess the alternatives calmly. A repeat attempt, another suitable course, or a different admission route each has its own cost and implications. Do not assume that entering a related course guarantees a later transfer into medicine. Ask for the actual transfer rules before paying.
29 Prepare the Italian student visa file step by step
Applicants who need permission for a long university stay generally use the national type D study visa route. Identify the Italian mission responsible for your lawful place of residence and use its current checklist. VFS may collect an application, but the consulate decides it. Italian Embassy visa guidance.
Use this as a planning checklist, then reconcile it with the official requirements:
Passport, application form, and compliant photographs.
Admission evidence and the required Universitaly summary.
Education records and required qualification assessment documents.
Accepted language evidence.
Financial evidence and permitted sponsorship documents.
Accommodation evidence and suitable medical insurance.
Travel arrangements, fee, and any requested explanation of your study plan.
Additional parental or residence documents where applicable.
The Mumbai checklist illustrates these document categories, but the linked version is labelled 2024–25 and must not be treated as a 2027 checklist or financial threshold. Historical study visa checklist.
Review your file for consistency. Course names, travel dates, sponsor details, and accommodation should tell the same clear story. Keep copies and respond promptly if the consulate requests clarification.
30 Understand financial evidence and the visa interview
The published 2026–28 national procedure specifies annual subsistence funds of 10,179.85 euros, subject to later updates. This is not the entire cost of the degree. Confirm acceptable financial evidence and additional costs with your consulate. National financial requirements.
Ask specific questions about an education loan or fixed deposit before relying on it. Whether it is accessible, documented, and acceptable matters. Property ownership alone is not the same as money available for living expenses.
Prepare a clear explanation of how your studies will be funded. Keep genuine evidence of regular income, savings, and relevant transactions. If a large credit has a legitimate source, organise the documents that explain it.
For an interview, practise answering naturally: why this course, why this university, who is paying, where will you live, and what have you studied previously? Your answers should match your documents. Do not memorise a dramatic story or make claims you cannot explain.
Admission and a scholarship application do not guarantee visa approval. Avoid non refundable commitments where practical while the decision is pending. Embassy guidance on visa decisions and travel bookings.
31 Arrange accommodation travel and arrival
Once travel is appropriate, verify your accommodation address, move in date, deposit conditions, and route from the airport. Ask for a written agreement and confirm who is entitled to rent the property. An attractive photograph alone is not enough to justify payment.
Carry essential documents in your hand luggage, with digital backups accessible securely. Include passport and visa, admission records, accommodation details, insurance, key education documents, and emergency contacts. Keep any necessary medication documentation with you.
For students entering with a national study visa, the current national procedure requires the residence permit application within eight working days of arrival. Ask the university's international office for help organising the correct local process and retain the submission receipt. Official residence permit procedure.
Complete the university's enrolment checks, organise your tax code where needed, and confirm health coverage and student services. Attend orientation and learn the timetable before planning additional commitments.
32 Settle into medical school and plan ahead
Your first weeks are a good time to establish a sustainable routine. Locate classrooms, laboratories, libraries, and student support offices. Learn how attendance, assessments, and clinical requirements work in your programme.
Keep an annual calendar for tuition, scholarship renewal, residence documentation, and examinations. Store certificates and training records as you receive them. Trying to reconstruct several years of clinical activity immediately before graduation can be difficult.
If you hope to work during your studies, check your residence conditions and current work rules first. Build the family budget without assuming you will quickly find enough paid work to fund medical school.
Keep reviewing the professional requirements in the country where you may practise. Medical registration, language competence, postgraduate selection, and immigration permission are separate steps. A degree begins your professional route; it does not automatically complete every licensing process abroad.
33 Questions students commonly ask about IMAT 2027
Can I start before the official examination date is announced
Yes. Build scientific understanding, reading skills, and timed problem solving now. Use recent official material as a working reference, then compare your plan with the 2027 syllabus and rules when released.
Is NEET preparation enough
It can provide a strong science foundation, but you still need practice with the IMAT question style, English reading, reasoning, mathematics, timing, and scoring. Use a diagnostic paper to identify the extra work you need.
Is there a safe score that guarantees admission
No universal score guarantees every university or category. Compare several years of relevant rankings cautiously and aim to improve your consistency. A qualifying minimum and a competitive admission score are different things.
Can I apply after a gap year
A gap alone does not answer the eligibility question. Present your complete academic record, check current admission conditions, and explain what you did during the period honestly. Individual document and visa requirements still apply.
Is IELTS compulsory for everyone
Do not assume one test is compulsory for every applicant, or that no evidence is needed. Ask the university and consulate which certificates or equivalent assessments they accept, including the required level and validity period.
Do I need all six years of expenses in one bank account
Do not infer that requirement merely from the course duration. Follow the current consular financial checklist and be ready to explain a credible funding plan for continued study. Obtain clarification for your particular situation.
Is a blocked account always required
Do not import another country's visa rules into an Italian application. Check your competent Italian mission's exact requirements, including any special arrangement it specifies. Avoid paying for a financial product before confirming it is necessary and accepted.
Can a consultant guarantee admission or a visa
No. A consultant can help you understand procedures and prepare applications, but universities, scholarship bodies, and consular authorities make their own decisions. Ask for a written service scope and transparent fees.
